October 8, 2026: Jackson County’s November ballot
Until Oct 8 the Jackson County page said commission chair Mark Letson was contested in November and commissioner Todd Bryson was on the ballot. The State Board of Elections records show Letson finished second in the March 3, 2026 Republican primary for the chair seat, to David J. Rogers, and Bryson did not file. The Nov 3 races are chair, Marcia Almond (D) vs Rogers (R); District 1, Casey Walawender (D) vs Steven J. Sutton (R); District 2, Sean Bridgers (D) vs John Smith (R, incumbent) (candidate list, March 3 results). The area page and both commissioners’ pages are corrected.
October 8, 2026: Drew Ball’s first statement on the cameras
From Sept 17 through Oct 7 this site said Drew Ball’s first statement on the cameras came at the Sept 16, 2026 West Asheville candidate forum, and that no written statement had been found. Mountain Xpress published an interview with him on Sept 17, 2026, given Aug 14, in which he spoke about the May 12 vote, residents’ Fourth Amendment concerns and a citizen oversight committee (Mountain Xpress). His page and Election 2026 now date his first statement to Aug 14.
September 23, 2026: the Axon contract was public
From Sept 8 through Sept 17 this site said the executed Axon contract had not been released. The City of Asheville posted it on its Technology and Public Safety page (publicinput.com/f65124) beside the Aug 14, 2026 chief’s memo, and Kim Roney thanked staff for the upload at the Aug 25, 2026 meeting. The contract is City of Asheville Contract 92700065, dated Aug 1, 2026, signed by the city manager Aug 4, 2026, $7,423,161.15 over 7.5 years; it is read on The Axon contract, as signed. The pages that carried the line now say so and link it. What the city has not posted is the itemized quote the contract references (Q-808220-46198AS, the full purchase-order item list), the separate contract for 20 Axon Fleet in-car readers, Axon’s written confirmation of the ACEIP opt-out, and Policy 1703; those replace “release the contract” wherever the site listed it as an open ask.
August 26, 2026: a briefing statement attributed to the wrong member
The 2026-08-20 Agenda Briefing coverage and Maggie Ullman’s page credited her with the statement “I was under the impression that 10 were coming down already… I’m happy to move forward on just pulling them now.” Voice analysis of the briefing audio, checked against the Aug 25, 2026 session where each member is recognized by the chair, attributes the statement to Sage Turner, whose own public posts describe the same wind-down details. The quote now sits on Turner’s page. Ullman’s other briefing statement, on not “pulling back on our transparency tools,” was re-verified and stands as hers.
August 26, 2026: the source of the vehicle reader count
The 2026-08-25 City Council page attributed the count of 162 vehicle-mounted Axon plate readers to a staff memo. The source is APD’s statement to 828NewsNOW, published Aug 20, 2026; the chief’s Aug 14 memo gives no vehicle count. The number is unchanged. The city’s Axon transparency portal listed 150 vehicles in February 2025 and 137 on Aug 26, 2026, so APD’s stated count and its portal disagree.
August 24, 2026: two people, two roles
The housing authority’s chief executive is Ella Santos; David Nash retired in June 2023, and the page that named him as executive director now says “then-executive director.” APD Deputy Chief Sean Aardema sits on the housing authority’s board, verified in the board’s May 20, 2026 minutes.
