Title: Superintendent, Buncombe County Schools (Dr. Rob Jackson) · a BCS alumnus who started in the district in 1992 In this role since: November 1, 2022 Term ends: retiring effective September 1, 2026 (announced June 4, 2026) (BPR · WLOS)

Surveillance record

The memorandum giving the Sheriff’s Office access to roughly 1,500 school cameras through Fusus was signed in late 2021 under his predecessor, Tony Baldwin (WLOS, Oct 25, 2021). No statement by Jackson on the MOU, its scope, or ICE access to school video has been found in nearly four years in the role; the only 2026 camera quote from the district is Assistant Superintendent Chip Cody’s: cameras “are also able to be viewed remotely… we can go back in time and see not only what’s going on live, but what has occurred… and work with law enforcement on those issues as needed” (WLOS, Aug 19, 2026). The question for him

Before September 1: did he ever review or renegotiate the 2021 MOU, and will he hand his successor its text and the audit trail the district says exists? (request 9)
